Overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) is a Lean term associated with Total
Productive Maintenance and is considered a manufacturing
best practice. OEE drives action within total productive maintenance and is a tool used to assess a facility's productivity by assigning
it a numerical value
An OEE of 100% means that only good parts are produced (100% quality),
at the maximum speed (100% performance),
and without interruption (100% availability).
Measuring OEE and the underlying losses, gives important insights on how to systematically improve the
manufacturing process. OEE is the single best metric for identifying losses, bench-marking progress, and improving
the productivity of manufacturing equipment and operators.
